Wonder of the Baroque
The city is located in the heart of Salento and has about 400,000 inhabitants.
Lecce is the capital and the best cultural center of Salento and it’s the seat of the University of Salento.
Very active in the fields of agriculture, crafts (ceramics and paper mache) and tourism, the city is the birthplace of Baroque art thanks to the use of the local stone: the so called “pietra leccese”. For the beauty of its monuments, Lecce is known as the Florence of the South.
